Prattling Along

The Rancher is off work today, so it sort of feels like it should be Sunday. He and the Bag Lady have plans to do some ranch-related tasks today (they have to de-louse their calves - doesn't that sound exciting!?), and he will try to catch up on some much-needed rest.

The weather is supposed to stay mild for today, then start cooling off to more normal winter temperatures. This past week or so of warm weather was a sweet break from the cold, but it is far too early to even hope for spring. We have the rest of January and all of February to get through yet. March can be terrible for lots of snow and there is still the possibility of extreme cold weather. We can also experience huge snowfalls in April or May, but the chances of extreme cold are reduced by then, due to the longer daylight hours.

There isn't much to talk about around the ranch today, and the Bag Lady is sure that many of you are going to be busy anyway, watching the inauguration in the United States. The Bag Lady is going to try to keep an eye on this historic event herself!

She hopes everyone is having a good day!

OH MY GOSH.
you lost me at delousing.
and here I thought you avoided even the threat of all that by not having a toddler around yer domicile.

hope you squeeze in some fun on your tuesdaysunday as well.

Miz - well, the calves aren't exactly toddlers anymore, but.... :)

Actually, because they are cooped up in a smallish space, they seem to get lice more easily. I'm not sure why, but I'm not sure I want to know, either!

Stay warm Bag Lady. :)

Thanks, Javachick! Is it warming up where you are? Freezing rain in your neck of the woods?

Delousing = de-licing? Oh wow, for a minute there I had no clue what you were talking about!

Emily - when critters have lice, they are said to be lousy. Hence, delousing. Lovely topic to post about, eh? :)

Delousing is fun! Do you make them put their bells in plastic bags outside the paddock? At school the kids have to put all their stuff in trash bags in the hall when we have an outbreak.

Ya know what annoys me? (yes, everything, but..) The weather channel's "When Weather Changed History." Did not. Morons. But, hey, who trusts weatherpeople anyhow?

No lice here, thank goodness, but you're right I'm all excited about the inauguration!

Hope the warm weather hangs on a bit longer... I won't even tell you how glorious it's been in San Diego. Oops, I guess I just did!

Ugh, lice! Got them from the girls when I was a nanny. Still traumatized hehe.

We're going to have a mini inauguration party tonight. I'm baking an Obama cake :D

Much warmer here too BagLady. The calves can wait a little since history doesn't. :) Enjoy your day.

Well, at least delousing calves doesn't involve combing through their hair like little kids.

Have fun ;)

That's definitely an interesting topic! Perhaps when you're done, you can detick( not a word, I know) the moose, while you're at it! Ha! I mean, all you would have to do is call him over, hang the pail of whatever on his antlers, and start the process of dipping the rag into the pail while he stands completely still. That's how you must do it with the calves! Enjoy another beautiful winter day on the ranch, and happy delousing!

Marianne - that cracked me up! Yeah, we make them leave all their possessions outside in a plastic bag! :)

Crabby - Barack gave a terrific speech, IMO! Ushering in a brand new era.
And, while it's not exactly bikini weather here, it's still above 40F, which makes me happy!

Sagan - I've never had lice myself, but we delouse our cattle every year, and, of course, the liquid gets spilled, so I'm probably well-protected! *grin*
And I hope you post a picture of your Obama cake. (I was going to say Ba(rac)king...but thought it was a little too obscure)

Tom - we managed to watch the inauguration AND delouse the calves - the inauguration took place early enough our time to allow us plenty of time for both!

Reb - yes, thank heavens we don't have to use a nit-comb on them! Just pour some stuff along their backs.

Redbush - methinks de-ticking mooses would be a job for someone a wee bit sprightlier than I!
And our calves are so quiet, most of them just stood there and let the Rancher pour the medicine on them!

Delousing? Ok, that definitely had my attention. Lol.

And I can't imagine the potential of snow in April or May. That's already summertime for us.

enjoy your time off ;)! It's a very exciting day here ;)

Ack, you're making me itchy at the thought. Glad you're getting a January thaw. Send it this way, willy?

Aleta - Sorry about the delousing... it had to be done! And we have gotten snow in almost every month of the year at one time or another.

Annette - Thanks! I'll stop by to check out your excitement!

Hilary - I know, I know. I've been itching all day, just thinking about it! But it's done now. And apparently, our warm weather is almost done, too! Sigh.
